Getting to Hong Kong
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG): Hong Kong boasts one of the world's busiest and best-connected airports, with numerous direct flights from major cities worldwide.
From Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)
- Airport Express Train + Taxi (Fastest & Easiest):
- Airport Express to Tsing Yi Station: Take the Airport Express train from the airport to Tsing Yi Station (approximately 22 minutes).
- Taxi to CUHK: From Tsing Yi Station, taxis are readily available. The taxi ride to CUHK will take around 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic.
- Airport Express Train + MTR (Most Affordable):
- Airport Express to Tsing Yi Station: Take the Airport Express train from the airport to Tsing Yi Station (approximately 10 minutes).
- Transfer to Tsuen Wan Line: At Tsing Yi Station, transfer to the MTR Tsuen Wan Line (Red Line) towards Tsuen Wan.
- Transfer to East Rail Line: At Prince Edward Station, transfer to the East Rail Line (Blue Line) towards Lo Wu or Sheung Shui.
- Disembark at University Station: Get off at University Station. CUHK is a short walk from the station.
- Direct Bus (Convenient but Longer Travel Time):
- Bus A40 or E41: Look for bus stops at the airport for routes A40 or E41. Both buses go directly to CUHK.
- Travel Time: The bus journey takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on traffic.
- Direct Taxi/Uber (Most Convenient, but Priciest)
- Taxi Stand/Ride-Hailing App: Taxis are readily available at the airport's designated taxi stands. Alternatively, you can use ride-hailing apps like Uber or HKTaxi.
- Travel Time: The journey to CUHK will take around 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic. Expect to pay a premium for tolls and potential surcharges.
Important Notes
- Octopus Card: We highly recommend purchasing an Octopus Card upon arrival at the airport. It will make your journey on public transport much smoother and more affordable.
- Estimated Costs:
- Airport Express: Around HK$115 (single journey to Kowloon Station)
- Taxi: Around HK$200-300 from Kowloon Station to CUHK, HK$350-450 from the airport to CUHK
- MTR: Around HK$20-30 from Tsing Yi Station to University Station
- Bus: Around HK$20-30
Getting Around Hong Kong
Hong Kong offers a world-class public transportation system, making it easy to navigate the city.
- Octopus Card: We highly recommend purchasing an Octopus Card upon arrival. This rechargeable smart card can be used for all forms of public transport (MTR, buses, trams, ferries) and even for purchases at convenience stores and vending machines.
- Mass Transit Railway (MTR): The MTR is Hong Kong's efficient and extensive subway system, connecting Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories.
- Buses: Hong Kong has an extensive network of double-decker buses covering most areas of the city.
- Trams: Experience Hong Kong's iconic double-decker trams on Hong Kong Island for a nostalgic journey.
- Ferries: Ferries are a scenic way to travel between Hong Kong Island and outlying islands like Lantau Island (home to the Big Buddha) and Cheung Chau.
